Landmark Credit Union is a state chartered credit union striving to meet the financial needs of the people we serve. We want to be the agent that strengthens and empowers our membership and employees to achieve an exceptional quality of life. As a member-owner, you have a voice in your credit union. Your views and opinions are important to us and can help guide us in the direction that will allow us to help you accomplish your financial goals.
Established in May 1928, we have long been in the business of "People helping People". At Landmark Credit Union, we are not about profit or gain, but we are about service and commitment to family and community.
The white-collar workers of Tennessee Coal and Iron (now US Steel Corporation) in Fairfield Alabama established Landmark Credit Union. We are the first state charted credit union in Alabama and the third oldest credit union in the state.
Our beginning was in a wooden cigar box, which was kept in a desk drawer of Clyde Parker, one of the original-founding officers. Mr. Parker operated the credit union on his lunch hour. At that time, you owned a $5.00 share in the credit union which made you a lifetime member. Your membership afforded you an opportunity to save and to help your fellow employees with low interest loans.
Today, we are a fifty-six million-dollar credit union with three locations in two counties. We offer a full line of financial products and services to our members while providing them the opportunity to achieve their financial goals through competitive interest rates on both savings and loans.
In 1987, we extended our field of membership, which now includes over fifty sponsor groups. With the merger of Ingalls Employees Credit Union in 1990, and McWane Employees Credit Union in 1991 and the purchase of Avondale Mills Credit Union in Pell City in 1991, we have increased our membership and asset size tremendously. Although we have experienced tremendous growth, we continue to offer the same quality service that Landmark members have grown to know and expect.
In May of 2011, Landmark Credit Union celebrated its 83rd year of service to our members. We are proud of our history and realize that we could not have achieved such a landmark but for the loyalty of each of our members. We hope to be here another 83 years to continue serving you and your families.
We would value the opportunity to serve you and your family in all your financial needs. Qualifying for membership in our credit union is simple. You need to be employed by a sponsor company or have a family member that is already a member. We have been granted a community charter by the State of Alabama and if you live or work or attend school or church in any area West of I-65, you now qualify for membership with Landmark Credit Union. We also have a community charter for Saint Clair County, the Cities of Lincoln and Talladega. If you have questions regarding eligibility, give us a call. We will gladly answer any questions you may have.
If you are an employee whose employer is not affiliated with a credit union, contact us today. We would be happy to offer our services to you and your co-workers.
Credit union members and employees are unique in our philosophy. Service, commitment, integrity and traditional values are our goal. We want you to know that at Landmark, "People are worth more than money".
